Stay in the small town of Inari, Finnish Lapland and enjoy evening tours targeted at experiencing the Northern Lights in different ways - by snowmobile sleigh and by car. During the days, enjoy some great activities including getting to know the Sámi culture and the locals, and dog sledding. Your tour arrangements include accommodation, use of outer winter clothing, airport transfers and guided excursions from Inari. Optional Aurora Cabin overnight.

Itinerary

The tour is offered as either a 4 day/3 night package or a 6 day/5 night package. The 4 day/3 night itinerary is immediately below, and notes for the longer tour follow.

Day 1 Ivalo Arrival - Inari & Aurora Information

Transfer from Ivalo Airport to Hotel Inari or similar. Upon check in you will be given your winter outdoor clothing for use during your stay, and vouchers to the Siida Sámi Museum, which you can visit on your own during your stay (the Museum is open Monday - Saturday 10am to 4pm). Evening Aurora Information Session - learn more about the Northern Lights and the nature of the Inari area. Your guide will take you through the eight seasons of Lapland, while showing you beautiful pictures of the Aurora and the Arctic nature. Learn why the Northern Lights appear, how Aurora forecasts are done and how best to photograph them. Meals are served at Hotel Inari, from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on Day 4.

Day 2 Sámi Culture at Siida Museum, Snowshoe Hike & Evening Snowmobile Sleigh to the Aurora Camp

This morning visit the Sámi Museum and Nature Centre Siida, a museum and centre celebrating the local indigenous Sami culture and traditional life in Lapland. The museum also features fascinating exhibitions on Lappish nature and the enchanting Northern Lights (museum open Mon-Sat 10am-4pm). Later, strap on your snowshoes for a very different experience. Stay upright and mobile even on deep snow, while enjoying the beauty of the wintery forest during a snowshoe walk. Your guide will answer your questions about the surrounding natural environment and provide hot drinks to keep you warm. In the evening, your guide will take you by snowmobile sleigh to the Aurora Camp, located in area with no light pollution. In traditional kota hut your guide will prepare a tasty snack. During the excursion you'll have possibility to go out in the snow with snowshoes. With good luck the dancing northern lights may appear.

Day 3 Husky Safari & Aurora Hunting By Car

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the husky farm for your next adventure. Help the musher prepare the team of huskies for the ride of your life. Dog sledding is a truly unique and exciting way to experience the beauty and silence of arctic nature. Two persons share the driving of each sled. This evening, your guide will drive you to a location a few kilometres from the village in search of the Northern Lights. Sometimes cloudy skies can limit the view of the northern lights, even if there is aurora activity in the sky, so your guide will check weather conditions and try to predict the movement of clouds in order to find the best viewing spot.
