Join a unique adventure to Nordenskiöld glacier! On this trip you will travel far away from Longyearbyen, right into the heart of the Arctic land to the Nordenskiöld area. Nordenskiöld Lodge lies in front of the magnificent Nordenskiöld glacier. This is a place where you truly can enjoy the Arctic silence while enjoying the challenge of a glacier climb, kayaking and some great hikes. The tour also includes two nights at Basecamp Hotel, Longyearbyen, before and after your stay at the Lodge.
"Incredible five days in a cute cabin in front of Nordenskiöld glacier. No words to describe this cabin: the perfect, size, decoration and location. We think is the best cabin we've ever been travelling around the world. And the "Adventure Week" offers a great mix of activities to do around (kayak, hiking glacier, trekking around). 100% recommended! " - Marjo, Spain 2016
Itinerary
Day 1 Longyearbyen Arrival
On arrival in Longyearbyen, shuttle bus transfer to your accommodation. Time to explore the town, perhaps visit the Svalbard Museum, the North Pole Expedition Museum and the Svalbard Kirke, or browse the shops for a unique souvenir. Overnight in Longyearbyen at Basecamp Hotel.
Day 2 Longyearbyen - Nordenskiöld
This morning meet your guide at 08:00hrs at your hotel then head to the harbour to board the Isfjord Ekspressen enclosed boat. Travel all the way to the Billefjorden and Adolfbukta. There is plenty of wildlife around the fjords at this time of the year, such as arctic birds, walruses, belugas and sometimes polar bears. On arrival at the Nordenskiöld cabin, enjoy an outdoor lunch followed by a guided walk. Three overnights at Nordenskiöld Lodge. Please note the Lodge has no running water or electricity - wood is used to heat the cabin and sauna and there are five twin rooms each with two beds, with fantastic Arctic views, an indoor composting toilet, and a traditional wood sauna. Each evening, return to the cabin for a delicious dinner and warm sauna.
Day 3 Nordenskiöld: Kayaking
This morning you will paddle in pairs in double kayaks. Kayaking is a perfect way to get around in the arctic and a very traditional way to explore the arctic shorelines. Today's destination will be determined by the guide according to weather and sea conditions, as well as your level of paddling skills. Paddle next to the magnificent glacier front amongst floating pieces of glacier ice, while being observed by the curious wildlife.
Day 4 Nordenskiöld: Glacier Walking and Climbing
Guided trip to the majestic Nordenskiöld Glacier, just 300m away from the cabin. Spend the day on the glacier walking up and down in the glacier cracks, with an expedition lunch along the way. In the evening, if weather permits, head down to the shoreline with your guide to make a bonfire and enjoy the fjord view.
