Sweden

With a rich cultural heritage and an abundance of unspoiled nature, Sweden is a land of contrasts. Explore beautiful historic cities such as Malmo, Gothenburg and Stockholm, cruise the famous Göta Canal from Stockholm to Gothenburg, visit sparkling lakes, fish or go berry picking under the Midnight Sun.

Stockholm

Sweden’s capital city is built on 14 islands and is connected by 57 bridges. Visit some of this city’s main attractions such as the Royal Palace, Parliament Buildings, Cathedral, Royal Theatre, Vasa Museum or the interactive Abba Museum. Walk around the narrow cobble-stoned streets of Old Town (Gamla Stan) with its many antique shops. Stop at City Hall, the venue where the Nobel Prize banquet is held each year and see its Blue and Golden Halls.

Enjoy a cruise through the Djurgården Canal and take in the fabulous views of the Stockholm skyline. Or take a boat ride to the royal residence of Drottningholm which is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List or cruise under some of Stockholm’s bridges while you pass some of the islands such as Södermalm, Lilla and Stora Essingen along the way.

From Stockholm you can take a cruise to Gothenburg along the Göta Canal, travelling through locks, lakes, forest and fields with overnight stops at the villages of Stegeborg, Berg, Motala, Hajstorp and Vanersborg.

Gothenburg

Gothenburg is located on the west coast and is a city rich in culture. Visit the Gothenburg Art Museum with its art collections from the 15th century, the Botanical Gardens, Opera House, Museum of Natural History, Gustaf Adolfs Torg a central square where you will see the City Hall, the City Council and Commodity Exchange, contemporary Strandverket Art Gallery, Gothenburg Sports Museum, Trädgårdsföreningen with its beautiful gardens located in the centre of the city, and Lisberg the popular amusement park and much more.

Take a boat across to the 17th century Älvsborg Fortress, the Göteborgs Spårvägsmuseum where you can learn about the history of the city's trams and tramways. Experience amazing views of the city from the Masthuggskyrkan Church or the fortress Skansen Lejonet. Try some of the fresh seafood at the Feskekôrka indoor fish market or enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants inside the Saluhall Briggen market hall.

Malmö

Is Sweden’s third largest city and is known for its cultural diversity. Malmö is located only a short 40 minute train ride from Copenhagen. Visit Malmohus Castle, the home to Malmö Museum and see its exhibitions of history, nature, maritime and technology. You can also take a ride in a submarine, to get up close with the fish and snakes in the aquarium. Right next door you will find Splottsparken with its café and picturesque gardens. From West Harbour look up and you will see the Turning Torso building which is 90 metres high and twists 90˚from the bottom to the top. Other attractions include St Peters Church (the oldest building in Malmö) and the Modern Museum. Sample some of the food on offer from local traders at Möllevångstorget, enjoy some al fresco dining at Lilla Torg or wander through Emporia which is one of the largest shopping malls in the Nordic region.

Swedish Lapland

In Winter Spend a night in an Ice Hotel or the TreeHotel surrounded by forest. During the winter, Swedish Lapland is a great place to search for the Northern Lights or to try some winter activities.

Lulea

Is the capital of Swedish Lapland and is located on the northern coastline just below the Arctic Circle. During winter there is a range of activities on offer in Lulea including snowmobiling, horseback riding, dogsledding, snowshoeing, skiing, ice fishing, moose safari, dig your own snow cave or build your own igloo. Experience the natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights and learn about the culture of the local Sami people.

Spend a memorable night at the TreeHotel amongst the unspoiled nature which is located approximately 70km from Lulea Airport. From your cosy tree room you can soak up the amazing views of the Lulea River Valley. There is a wide range of accommodation on offer including an elevated ‘Mirror Cube’, ‘The Cabin’, ‘The Birds Nest’, ‘The UFO’, ‘Blue Cone’ or ‘Drafonfly’.

Jukkasjärvi

Jukkasjärvi is located 200km north of the Arctic Circle alongside the Torne River and approximately 19km from Kiruna Airport. Visit Jukkasjärvi Church, the oldest church in Swedish Lapland which was built around 1607.

Jukkasjärvi is also home to the IceHotel, which is re-built each spring and is open from mid-December to April. A mix of snow and ice is harvested from the Torne River and used by artists from around the world to construct each of the individually designed rooms and suites. The room temperature remains at a steady -5˚ to -8˚celsius. A thick mattress rests upon the wooden base of the bed and covered with reindeer hides. Thermal sleeping bags are provided. Enjoy a drink in the Ice Bar in a glass made from ice. If you choose not to stay in an ice room or suite, warm hotel accommodation in rooms or chalets are available and you can still visit the IceHotel.

Some of the winter activities on offer include snowmobiling, an arctic wildlife safari, dog sledding, a husky excursion, moose safari on horseback, reindeer safaris, cross country skiing, ice sculpting, winter survival introduction or you can learn how to photograph the Northern Lights. Join the search for the Northern Lights on a snowmobile or by horseback.
